Description
Gearbox Coupling – for Segway PT i2 and x2, SE and Gen2
Coupling made of special plastic for all Segway models. Power transmission attachment (clutch) between engine and gearbox. Counterpart to the elastomer and motor coupling. Always change the gear box coupling in good time. A defective, used and worn clutch can cause the shaft to “slip”. This in turn inevitably leads to a fall!
The accuracy of fit of the gearbox coupling is crucial for the smooth running of the Segway gearbox. Particular attention must be paid to correct installation.
You can find favorable service offers with the change of couplings, included in our service package 2, at CROSSTOURS AT – just contact us!
Assembly is carried out exclusively with a special centering press.
Installation by certified specialist personnel is recommended and is mandatory in commercial operations! Incorrect installation can lead to damage to the gearbox, coupling and elastomer and consequently to personal injury! Unfortunately, we cannot accept any liability for this. Please note our special low-cost service offers.
Like any vehicle, the Segway PT requires regular maintenance and servicing. Although the upright scooter is not nearly as susceptible to repairs and maintenance as a vehicle with a combustion engine, certain components such as couplings and elastomers are subject to normal wear and tear. These transmission components are very safety-relevant and must be replaced or exchanged after a certain time and depending on the mileage. Due to the high performance of the Segway PT, the gearbox spare parts are subject to heavy wear.
The elastomer sits on the star of the motor shaft and transmits the power to the gearbox of the Segway PT via the coupling. Together with the coupling, the coupling is therefore the part of the vehicle subject to the most wear and tear.
During our service work, we often see couplings where the shaft mount is almost round (turned round) and therefore worn out.
With a lot of luck, the shaft will splay in the coupling for a while and keep the transmission system alive. At some point, however, the shaft will spin under load = full speed. What this means for the driver’s safety is clear. A fall is inevitable, as the Segway PT can no longer balance itself! At this point at the latest, the tour provider or rental company is at risk due to failure to exercise due care.
To avoid risking major damage to the Segway, you should have the Segway PT serviced regularly and have wearing parts replaced by a specialist. Good maintenance prevents equipment failure during the season and saves a lot of effort and hassle ;o)!
